an important side note of this whole engagement business i forgot to mention yesterday: Oliver actually called and asked my father, and my engagement ring was my grandmother's engagement ring. <3 <3 <3

I came home from work today to find a note saying "Go up to the roof". When i got up there I found Oliver in a chair with a picnic basket full of White Castle sliders and fries, a bottle of champagne, and a tablecloth spread out for us to sit on. I started laughing, he proposed, I said "No!!.... hahah yes of course!" and ta-da! Engaged!

My interview is officially over. I'm pretty positive, like 97%, that I kicked major ass. We will know in about a month what happened. Let the next round of suspense begin!

I'm so tired now. So so tired.

Tomorrow is my celebration day! I am sleeping in, eating a deliscious breakfast, going to the gym, maybe doing laundry (all this by myself too- quiet time to reflect and rejuvenate myself), meeting Joe for celebratory milkshakes (big huge ones), and then going to the super fun good times kick ass show of the month at Lit and drinking up a storm. I'm going to treat myself to whatever drinks I want. No dirty pabst for me tomorrow night. Then im going to make out with Oliver a lot. A lot. Everything in excess tomorrow!

Heres a word for Kelly: Tomorrow will be a dionysian celebration!

lots of randomness [15 Feb 2007|07:09pm]
[ mood | random ]

So many updates about Valentine's Day! I am proud to say that I did absolutely NOTHING on Wednesday. Oliver and I both took the day off, did not get out of bed until 1:00pm, and we went to the gym. Then we made hot dogs for dinner (i made chicago-style dogs, and it was amazing), watched TV, and went to bed.

Those hot dogs fucked me up though. They totally made me miss summer. I'm over winter already, despite the fact its been so mild. But now that its officially here, FUCK IT. And those damned hot dogs. All i was thinking about while eating them was flip flops, warm sunlight, and walks to the river. Mr. Softee trucks. Sitting on the roof. Bbqs. The beer garden.

This weekend we are going to Princeton. I'm itching for suburbia for some reason. plus i need to pick up some stuff for my Big Interview at Target (see next paragraph for further details). I really want to go to a mall as well. And Ross.

Next Tuesday is my Teaching Fellows interview. My interview is 4-5 hrs long. I have to participate in a group discussion, compose and conduct a 5 minute lesson, take some sort of writing test, and be interviewed one-on-one. Its pretty nerveracking, but i think I will rock it. Everyone cross your fingers for me.

The good news is though I have all of next week off. Next Wednesday is a really fun show at Lit, and everyone will be there, and if this interview goes well I will surely be partying up a storm and probably happily drunk. If it goes bad, I will probably still be drunk. So yeah. Wednesday will be Drunk Day.

Um, thats about it.

Game

Here are the rules:

You must write weird things about yourself. It is also important to reiterate these rules CLEARLY. Then choose 8 people to tag, and list their names.

Now what's weird to others may not be weird to you, me or anyone who knows you or me. But I guess we have to start somewhere.

1) I absolutely hate outter space. I would never go in a spaceship. Ever.

2) I talk and do other weird things in my sleep.

3) Apparently this is also weird: I sleep flat on my back, with my arms at my sides.

4) I have an irrational fear of people dying.

5) I make obsessive piles of clothes. I put them in order of how I put them on. Jewelry is included in this pile.

6) I wave at every baby that passes me.

Once again another good weekend has passed and today I have the horrible "mondays".

Saturday I went to my very first band practice and it was like every other band practice I had been to: lots of songs played over and over while I didnt do much of anything. But this time I was actually psyched to be there because I need to know these songs, so it was pretty rad. I'm pretty excited about all of this.

I took the train home with Jon and made some dinner for Oliver and I. We changed and then went to the Broadway production of the Lion King. The show was the lion king like everyone remembers it but it was super pretty. Everything was puppets and shadows and lights. Super nice. Oliver and I also bought souvenior cups so we could drink during the show. Nothing like drinking jack and coke through a sippy cup. I had a shirley temple.

After the show was over, we ended over the the Steinways show at Lit. It was pretty much over so the door girl let us in for free. We hung out there with everyone for an hour. Kelly and I had girl time. I accidently got in the middle of a rare moment of irritation between Chadd and Carla. Afterwards, about 10 of us headed over to a awesome polish diner. I had pierogis. A new girl was there. The side of her table promptly weirded her out with talk of the internet. My side of the table wasnt much better since our conversation mostly came back to pedophilia. Oh, my friends.

Jon, Joe, Patrick, Chadd, Carla, Oliver and I (aka Team Astoria- even you Joe) took the train home together. Oliver and I slept until noon on sunday. We got some breakfast and then we bought the most amazing purchase we have ever made. Yes my dear friends. We bought a vacuum. And holy shit. I dont care that I spent money my floor and carpets have never looked so clean. Vacuuming totally tops beating carpets out with a broom. Like by far. Its awesome. The rest of the day was spent doing our married couple domestic duties.

Today was horrible. Mondays. Goddamn Mondays. It started out rough- i woke up 5 minutes into my alarm. I get to the school- PS 166- and find out the class im covering (1st grade) has no lesson plans. No biggie, its first grade. So ok. The class is pretty good too. Then at about 10am, the teacher next door comes in and tells me 10 of her kids have lice. Yes. Lice. So the nurse comes and starts checking mine. 6 of my kids have it. In the next couple hours they will find that over 40 kids in the school have lice. So yeah I was itching all day. Ugh. Bugs. Bugs in your hair. EW EW EW.

I met Oliver at the gym after school let out, and then came home and relaxed most of the night away. After a long shower of course. And now here I am.

I'm sleepy.

I did a lot of things today.

I took the day off of work and Oliver and I stayed in bed until almost noon. Then we braved the freezing weather and went out for breakfast and into the city. While there Oliver bought a fucking hot western shirt and i bought a hat and my cheerleading outfit for the band I am now in. Then we wandered some more, went to my old apartment to pick up some mail, and then home. We discovered our heat and hot water wasnt working. This sucked so we went to the gym. Afterwards we ate dinner at chirping chicken and talked there for a while. We got home around 9pm, and i discovered online tetris. The heat came on, and the hot water, but online tetris is better.

I have my first band practice tomorrow! This is exciting. This should be a good weekend.

This weekend has been awesome and its now winding down nicely.

Friday Oliver played a free show at Crash Mansion, and those are always fun because of the open bar. Carla, Chadd, Chris and Patrick came out to see his band and to entertain me. Chadd and I got fairly tipsy. Chris told us tales of his teaching woes. Afterwards, everyone but Chris went to Tastee Corner for our usual late night supper.

Saturday we spent most of the day napping, and then met up with Carla and Chadd to go to the For Science show in Brooklyn. It was fucking cold out, and walking from the L to the loft it was was miserable. The loft was awesome though- i would totally live there. Kelly, Suki, Jackie, and a few others were there. Drinking was done. Some kid who I dubbed "The Creeper" was hitting on a ton of girls and asking if we would make out with him. He was pretty funny. Gross, but funny. Carla and I egged him on a little, which was amusing. We mostly wanted him to stay away from our friends, but it didnt work out so good, haha. The Creeper ended up getting decked and knocked to the floor during a hardcore mosh session and he disappeared for a while. Oh, and by the way, he was this small. pimply, sorta kid... a dirtier, less cute Anthony Micheal Hall in Sixteen Candles. Good times.

The show got progressively crazier and roman candles were shot off, and a christmas tree was thrown around. One kid's head was mauled by it, and he looked pretty scary covered in blood and smiling. I think he thought it was awesome, which was better than him crying, so it worked out. Oliver got pretty tanked, so Carla, Chadd and I called it a night shortly before the last band finished, but not before running next door to the strange random dance party and boogying down for a bit with the For Science kids. People looked at us like we were crazy, which I guess we are. We turned 16 yrs old on the subway and did a bit of graffiti and blamed it on chris and jon. I hoping kelly, suki, or jackie noticed it. Did you? We went to Tastee Corner AGAIN, and were asleep by 3am. Good times, again.

The next few weekends are looking great- The Steinways show next week, maybe the Binghamton show on the 3rd, or the Ergs show. Then Feb 10th is Chadd's birthday party in Jersey, unless I'm playing the LLC show. Regardless, fun times ahead!

Long time no write.

Not much has happened since I wrote in here last. Mostly working and relaxing. Chadd and Carla came over on Friday and we played this fun zombie board game Oliver got for xmas and also took pics of the kitty with Chadd's Wii controller to submit to wiikitty.com. Medium Fries might soon become an internet celebrity!

In other news Joe and Kelly convinced me to join the Lost Locker Combo, and Bill (the singer) gave it the thumbs up. So I'm in a band now. I don't sing or play an instrument, but I can dance and considering this is LLC that is completely ok and reasonable. I am now the group cheerleader, and all lyrics I have will be through a megaphone. I will be getting pom pons and a pleated skirt. I will be the dancer. Hallie and I will have some coordinated dance moves. Also, one song is my official song, called "Detention" in which I will be wearing a nun costume forcing the crowd to dance with me or else I hit them with a paddle. This is going to be so much fun. Especially since I am becoming a teacher. My first show is possibly Feb. 10th, opening for the Low Budgets.

So i love my god kids... heres a bunch of pictures of them.

This is my cousin Ed, the godfather, and our god children Riley (the girl) and the new addition, Brody. We are at Brody's baptism. Riley is my most favorite girl ever. Shes such a tomboy and she chases lizards and bugs and calls Oliver "skinny head" and "tall weirdo", which makes me smile. She didnt like him at first because she doesnt like anyone but once she saw I liked him, she became nice. Shes gonna be trouble. Oh, and I'm her favorite. As for Brody, if and old man and a potato had a kid, it would be Brody. Hes adorable.

Tomorrow Oliver and I are heading back to NY and I CANT FUCKING WAIT. This vacation didnt turn out exactly like I thought it would. Its funny how I could not wait to get down here but now I am wondering why I wanted to stay 2 whole weeks haha. I spent about 90% of my time with my family and that was great, and I'm getting all sad and mopey knowing I wont see them for probably another 6 mths. But... I spent 90% of my time with my family. My sanity is just barely intact. So it goes.

On another sort of sad note, my very dear friend Joanne has pneumonia, and she keeps getting worse. I thought 90% of my Florida time was going to be spent with her, but the gods of health frowned on us and changed our plans. To make matters worse, she called me to today to tell me she developed a sinus infection and bronchitis, and is running a high fever. I'm really worried about her because shes not in the best of health as it is, so everyone send your best wishes her way. Considering all this, I'm really glad I spent new years eve sitting on her living room floor, not drinking and raising a ruckus but instead eating tons of candy and laughing until our stomaches ached. I'm going to miss that girl, and she better get well soon. There are tentative plans in store to fly her awesome self up to NYC in March, and so long as her health improves these plans might become definite.

So yeah. Florida was pretty boring. This weekend I'm doing christmas #2 in princeton, NJ. This is nice becuase princeton is always nice but this also bums me out because 1) i wanna be in my own apartment chilling with my cat and 2) im missing the next city island show and 3) i miss my friends. The following weekend better be filled with good people and good times because NYC is where its at apparently.

I'm in florida now. Its pretty neat not having to cook or make my bed or pay for anything at the moment. I also drove my brother's car with the windows down and wore flip flops. Oh, and I had a publix sub. Its awesome.

I miss Oliver though and can't wait to for him to get here. I'm silly because I miss him already. Its just that going to bed by myself just isnt the same.

So this is totally random [18 Dec 2006|09:28pm]
[ mood | weird ]

Because I'm bored, I'm going to ask for opinions on a really random situation.

I was on myspace and i discovered that a close Florida friend of mine is seemingly really good friends with this girl I really screwed over in high school. Back in HS, my friend was super tight with this girls older brother, and I guess they have recently formed a bond. My friend hasnt mentioned this to me, so maybe I'm reading far too into the comments left by this girl on her myspace, or maybe its because time hasnt healed old wounds. The thing is, without getting too into it, I really messed this poor girl up. We were close, had a BAD falling out, and I didn't exactly treat her with the upmost respect thereafter, and long story short, she switched schools. Yes I was an asshole. A big one. Yes I regret my behavior. I am the first to admit that. So should I apologize? If someone back in high school like 8 yrs ago fucked you over bigtime would you want one or what? It seems so long ago, but I remember being a dick so I'm sure this girl remembers me being one. I want to apologize but I also dont want to reopen something that might be better left closed. But then again, what if say on New Years, we go to a party and shes there? Ugh.

So what do you all think?

Honestly, I already know I'm going to say something to her, but I'm curious about this. What would you want?

I dont think I've had so much fun in a while. Last night, Oliver, Carla, Michelle and I spent an hour or so on the train trekking out to City Island, the weirdest place ever. Its like a New York City fishing community. Dan (who owns the house the pre-party was at and also owns Crafty records) picked us up at the train station. His house was the cutest most kitschy place ever, like some grandma or great aunt decorated it. His roommates and him cooked up some deliscious vegetarian food that even the most fierce meat eaters enjoyed. I met all the guys from Delay and they aren't 19 like I thought (22) and the twins are the most adorable sweethearts. We sat around in the living room eating freshly baked chocolate chip cookies while a couple guys played accoustic sets. It was like a hippies dream, except not stupid. It was great and I didnt want to leave. Dan and a couple others even lite hannukah candles and said a jewish prayer at one point. Craziness.

Afterwards, everyone at the house walked over to Six Mile Cross, the bar the actual show was at. Delay and the Max Levine Ensemble was awesome. I decided Delay are my new favorite band and people. I'm really kinda bummed those kids don't live in New York because they are so nice and bouncy and happy. Carla summed it up nicely when she said "I dont think I would mind living in Ohio if all these great people are there".

We took a bus to the train and it took an hour and a half to get home. We left Michelle at Q'boro plaza and Chadd, Carla, Oliver and I had our usual late night snack at Tastee Corner, and finally at about 3ish Oliver and I passed out.

My mom woke me up at 9am because she was out and wanted to know what she should get Oliver for Christmas. Nice and all, but 9???? Good grief.

I go to Florida in 3 days! Today I have to clean and pack, and Carla is coming over. Tomorrow and Tuesday I work. I can't wait to be in the heat and with my parents and see my friends. But I am also glad I am back here in time for the next City Island show.

Tonight i was a mini Martha Stewart.

Oliver has been having a rough week because of finals. He is a fantastic all A's sorta student who works his ass off and I am so proud of him for buckling down all week- but his nerves are stretched thin at this point. So when I got home from work and found him all haggard at his computer, cursing and mumbling,i decided it was time to do something nice for him.

So I decided to cook.

Now I cook a lot but tonight i went all out. I made Oliver garlic mashed potatoes and 2 mini buffulo chicken pizzas. I am trying to kill him via heart attack. j/k.

I also bought a ton of dark and light chocolate and 16 candy canes and made about 3 lbs of peppermint bark for this pre-show potluck dinner thing everyone is going to. I found out late that theres some "no meat" rule so I hope theres not a bunch of vegans there opposed to chocolately goodness because I cant eat all this myself!

So tomorrow Team Astoria is headed all the way to City Island. Apparently its like Manhattan, but with boats?
